Series R Sceatta Research

R2 Metcalf Variety 8b to 11.

I was only able to find nine examples of these varieties. I explored the EMC database at the Fitzwilliam, the British Museum’s Sylloge 63, the Ashmolean Museum’s database and Naismith’s MEC 8, the ex Abramson collection and looked and my collection. Six examples of five varieties is a grossly inadequate number to justify a research booklet! These coins are surprisingly rare. The diagrams of the types may prove useful to those who not familiar with the different types of the R2 series.

Although not in the original survey the coin shown below is thought to be a seperate class. It is very similar to class R2 10.2 (above R2 11.2) However, it has a "T" above the runes to the front of the right facing head. I have designated this coin the classification R2 10.5
